The Event
The Ride
We should be averaging about 130 miles per day under normal conditions so we have pre-planned accommodation stops in mind. However, we could get a day where we face a howling gail for the entirety thus making a 130 mile ride somewhat of a challenge. To overcome this and to add in some flexibility we have made the decision that we will pre-book accommodation a couple of days in advance whilst confirming the booking early in the day of arrival. More information on our route and planned stops can be found here.
Travelling light will be key to our success therefore we have chosen to go for the more expensive option of staying in B&B's, thus losing the need for towels, lots of wash kit, sleeping bag etc, that we would need if staying in Youth Hostels or camping. This should also mean that we can wash the odd pair of socks and have somewhere nice and warm to dry out on the rainy days.
Food is close to our hearts! We aim to fill a typical day by eating a light snack before a 6:00am departure, getting a good 20 or 30 miles under our belt and then stopping for a large breakfast to set us up for the day. It is doubtful that the B&B will want to serve breakfast so early in the morning but if they chose to then we will eat well before starting - nothing like cycling on a belly of sausage, egg and tomato! We will fill our pockets with cereal bars and all things high in carbohydrate and snack throughout the day, stopping for lunch about 1:00pm. After a days cycling we will find a pub / restaurant and eat as much as we can before sleeping it off.
